In the not so distant future, around fifty years or so, a major divide has struck the globe; between the classes, between economies, between a technological revolution, and far more ominous and hiding in plain sight, between humanity and the demons.
We meet SITA DELONGPRE, mid 20’s, with stunning blue eyes, out for a fun evening with her friends in a futuristic New York City, where people’s phone numbers are exchanged with holographic scans from wrist bands, and cars operate themselves on an intricate track system that zigzags vertically and horizontally upwards off the earth’s surface. Sita appears sullen as we quickly learn she has just gotten out of a serious relationship. She is quickly eyed by a handsome stranger, LAZAR, but demurs. Her friend encourages her to flirt as a way of getting over her ex. Sita has another sip of her cocktail and a coy smile follows. We pick up with Sita and Lazar deep into a conversation, but there is something about him that sends a shiver down her spine. She says a polite goodbye and leaves. Later, Sita exits her cab at the walkway to her apartment building. It is cold, dark, and quite. A voice calls to her from behind and she is stunned to see Lazar standing there, blocking her path to get inside. Her affability quickly turns to pure terror as Lazar transforms into a horrifying demon before her very eyes, and swoops her up like a rag doll in whirl of grey mist. Within seconds they are both... gone.
In an old, shabby downtown apartment, MARZOLF, a representative from FoTanCo Electric, and SGT. LAVENDER from the Army, pay a visit to DR. ARCHIBALD SNOW, an expert in historical Manhattan geological studies. Snow comes off as shabby as his apartment. He seems weary, older and with the wit and sarcasm of a man who has been places and seen things. They inform Snow that their robot scouts have picked up traces of extreme heat and a substance that can potentially help create oil again. It is clear that oil is an extremely rare commodity and that this would be huge international news that would result in a lot f people making a lot of money. They ask Snow to lead a team of Marines to the site to confirm or deny that existence of this substance. Open-ended archeological grants and a subsidized publicist to help restore his tarnished reputation, are powerful persuaders. Snow agrees to “think about it”.
Later, Snow leaves his apartment and heads down to the old NYC subway system. He is followed by a WOMAN IN MAROON. On a subway Snow is confronted by what first appears to be a homeless man, but we soon realize that this is no ordinary bum. He speaks with a polyphonic “Heavenly” tone like those of his kind the “Royals’’. This one is named BARTLEBY. We now know there is more to this Archibald Snow than we first believed, and that he and Bartleby are apart of a much bigger story going on. They begin to discuss the extreme heat detected by FotanCo Electric and the possible dig. Snow believes not only the substance is buried there but so might be the true treasure he seeks, Sita, and he wants to get her back.
Bartleby agrees that the Royals will support the expedition to find and save Sita before “it’s too late.” Getting Sita back and back quickly is of the essence, before the rise of a “Gathering” and the demon lord known as KABAL. As Snow leaves his friend he sees the Woman in Maroon clocking him. Winding his way around the halls of the subway system he sees she has been joined by two more men in Maroon. He knows her as ALEXANDRA and she calls him “Chickasaw.” It appears our Dr. Snow is lot more than we originally thought -- he is really CHICKASAW BROWN.
Alexandra and her muscle shapeshift into demons. Chickasaw battles them with great power, martial skills, and his two trusty Colt Python revolvers, specially modified for such occassions. He fires, and we notice one of the bullets has a blue glow to it, and it appears to hold a great power within. Demons don’t like this power. As the battle rages on, Lavender surprisingly appears from the shadows and sprays hellfire on the demons. They quickly turn back into human form and then into their grey mist, and fly down a subway tunnel. Chickasaw instantly reverts to the fearful cowering Dr. Snow. Lavender knows something odd is happening and does not trust Dr. Snow one bit.
A few mornings later we find Snow/Chickasaw on route to lower Manhattan with his team of Marines, Marzolf, and Lavender. Their mission is to find oil -- his mission is to find Sita.
On the mission Dr. Snow will reveal himself to the team to be none other than Chickasaw Brown, an ancient demon hunter and protector of the girl who can cry the crystal tears. The tears are humanity’s only hope to defeating the demons in an unseen battle that has been going on for centuries. Together, Chickasaw and the marines will encounter many levels of challenges, battles, all leading to a trap that could end Chickasaw’s mission of saving and protecting Sita once and for all.
Many questions and answers lie ahead; will Kabal rise to top demon or is another being running the show? Is Sita truly the girl who cries the crystal tears? And, finally, who really is Chickasaw Brown, and can he learn to trust and work with his new Marine comrades to defeat the Gathering?
